Starting the Journey

A journey will only come to an end if no challenges cut  in the middle!

The desire to make a difference in women's lives gave me energy to start the journey of building the vehicle that improve their lives of women and girls.

Can you imagine everyday having to go to work and find a dusty looking woman sad, swollen eyes after whole night or days of painful betrayal by the same people they dedicated their lives.

As a counselor, I would be receiving women and girls who were violated by different people but what was conspicuous  is that the pain was caused by spouses with whom they had lived for years together.

The violence took different shapes with each case: Just to give you a picture on how my day started :

I found Mary(not real name) outside waiting to be attended to. She had covered her head with a white scarf discolored by stains of blood. I greeted her and she looked at me responding in soft voice.
She came in and as was my usual case taking, I asked her to tell her story.. Mary started by removing her cover and nothing had prepared me to see what she had covered behind the scarf.

Mary had no lower lip!!!

The big question was how did she lose her lower lip! Before she could start sharing tears were flowing from her sunken eyes. I moved from my chair to just hold her hand and empathize as she started the sharing

You cannot imagine or even comprehend why anyone would do what John (not real name) her husband did to Mary. In their home in Vihiga, Mary and John had a disagreement on how to address an issue regarding their property.  John did not agree with her and later in the evening he thought she was talking too much and bit her lip off and threw it away. Mary was taken by a neighbor to a nearby health center for first aid after which she took a bus to Nairobi after referral to Kenyatta National Hospital.

Mary went a head to remove her top and showed me three marks on her tummy and back and then her thigh she had human bites.

Can you fathom this!!!!!!
Just take a moment ... for a minute..... and imagine what you would do with her!!!

Starting the journey part one..... look out for what next!!!!!
